Start with care, without a deadline
A recovery card can say “I am thinking of you” without asking the recipient to be cheerful, explain their illness or recover on a schedule. Match your usual relationship: a friend may appreciate a shared memory; a colleague may prefer a brief note. If you do not know the situation, leave out predictions about getting better.
For a friend
“Thinking of you and hoping today feels a little easier. No need to reply — I will check in again next week.”
If you can offer help, name something you can actually do: “I can bring dinner on Thursday if that would help. There is no pressure to have company.” Ask before visiting or sending food, and let them choose what is useful.
For family
“You do not have to make this day productive. I am here for the quiet days, too. Sending you love.”
A familiar detail can make the note yours: the film you watch together or a favourite place you hope to visit when they want to. Keep that hope open rather than making it a recovery deadline.
For a colleague
“Sending warm wishes from all of us. Please take the time you need to rest; there is no need to respond to this card.”
Do not include medical details in a group card or announce that their work is covered unless you know it is. A manager can communicate practical arrangements separately.
When “get well soon” does not fit
For a long illness or an uncertain recovery, “Thinking of you” or “You are not alone” may feel kinder. Avoid “Everything happens for a reason” and unsolicited treatment advice. You can simply say, “I do not have the right words, but I care about you.”
Put your message into a card
Open the recovery template below, replace the sample words with one of these messages and add your name. Read it once before exporting: remove any promise you cannot keep, and check that the note leaves the recipient free to rest. The article text is a writing aid; you enter your chosen message in the editor yourself.
Make it personal

Add a photo and the message you just chose. Download your card or share a link when it is ready.
